Forgotten Memories

Close your eyes and step into an attic,

In the far corner you see a faded wooden box

with items stacked upon it.

You work your way to it and clear away years of rubble stacked on top,You run your hands over the aged wooden box, and you can tell it was once painted Bright colors that

are now faded with age,

This box placed there by Loving hands so long ago,for safe keeping has long been forgotten.

You lift the lid slowly to look inside,A handmade rag doll,With button eyes and red yarn hair lies waiting

for a child long since grown,

You gently lift the doll out and start to look through the well loved toys that fill the box,

You can tell each toy was special and had been handmade with love and care,from the cloth and yarn dolls to the wooden blocks,train and well loved hobbie horse.

This box contained the memories of a childhood,Once filled with laughter, love and joy, and you can almost see a child as they smile while playing with the toys.....

With the collection of patterns and plans you will find here,

I hope you can make your own memories filled

with laughter,love and joy

That too one day will be found as a treasure.

Miss Hawaii

MATERIALS:

D·M·C Pearl Cotton, Art. 116D, Size 8:

1 ball Yellow Ombre No. 90 or 108,

D·M·C Six Strand Cotton: 1 skein Rose Ombre No. 48.

7 or 8-inch Doll.

Suitable small artificial flowers for hair.

Steel Crochet Hook, Size 7.

GAUGE:

10 sts = 1 inch, 5 dc rows = 1 inch * = STAR

PANTIES-With Yellow, ch 38, join (with slip st) into ring. Rnd 1-Ch 1, 1 sc in each ch around, join in first sc (38 sc). Rnd 2-Ch 1, 1 sc in each sc around, join. Rnd 3-Ch 1, 1 sc in back loop of each sc around (thus leaving front loops free for Fringe), join in first sc. Rnd 4-Ch 3 (= 1 dc), skip joined sc, 1 dc in back loop of each remaining sc (leaving front loops free for Fringe), join in top ch of ch-3. Front of Panties-Ch 3, skip first st, work 1 dec. as follows: * yo, draw up a loop in next dc, yo, thru 2 loops on hook; rpt from STAR once, yo, thru all 3 loops on hook, 1 dc in each of next 13 dc, work 1 dec., 1 dc in next dc. Row 2-Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, work 1 dec., 1 dc in each of next 11 dc, work 1 dec., 1 dc in top ch of ch-3. Rpt row 2 five times each successive row having 2 dc less between dec. points. Fasten off. Work Back of Panties to correspond. Sew crotch seam.

FRINGE (to simulate grass Skirt)-Wind yellow on a 3-inch cardboard, cut at one end. Tie two 2 strand Fringes in each free loop of rnds 2 and 3. From wrong side, run a drawstring thru each of first 2 rnds of Panties. Steam lightly. Slip Panties on Doll, tighten drawstrings around waistline and securely tie a knot. Trim Fringe evenly.

HALTER-* With Yellow, make a loop on hook, ch 4, work 17 dc in 4th ch from hook, join in top of ch-3, chain for 1¼ inches, fasten off; rpt from STAR once. Tack the 2 circles together at opposite dc from joining. Tie in place. With Yellow, chain for 2 inches, fasten off; slip chain around neck, tack ends to top of circles as shown.

LEI-Separate Rose Six Strand Cotton in half. Chain for 5 inches, slip st in 4th ch from hook, * ch 3, slip st in next ch; rpt from STAR across, work [ch 3 and 1 slip st] in each st on other side of foundation ch, fasten off. Sew the two ends of Lei together securely and slip around neck of Doll as shown.

Wristlets (Make 2)-Ch 15 and work as for Lei. Slip on wrists and sew ends together securely as shown.

Anklets-Work same as for Wristlets. Slip on ankles and sew securely.
