Forgotten Memories

Close your eyes and step into an attic,
In the far corner you see a faded wooden box
with items stacked upon it.
You work your way to it and clear away years of rubble stacked on top,You run your hands over the aged wooden box, and you can tell it was once painted Bright colors that
are now faded with age,
This box placed there by Loving hands so long ago,for safe keeping has long been forgotten.
You lift the lid slowly to look inside,A handmade rag doll,With button eyes and red yarn hair lies waiting
for a child long since grown,
You gently lift the doll out and start to look through the well loved toys that fill the box,
You can tell each toy was special and had been handmade with love and care,from the cloth and yarn dolls to the wooden blocks,train and well loved hobbie horse.
This box contained the memories of a childhood,Once filled with laughter, love and joy, and you can almost see a child as they smile while playing with the toys.....
With the collection of patterns and plans you will find here,
I hope you can make your own memories filled
with laughter,love and joy
That too one day will be found as a treasure.

Miss U.S.A.

MATERIALS:
D·M·C Pearl Cotton, Art. 116D, Size 8: 
1 ball Snow White, 1 ball Red No. 666 or 321, 
1 ball Blue No. 797 or 798.
¼-inch white ribbon; ½ yard.
4-inch white ribbon; ½ yard for Petticoat.
7 or 8-inch Doll.
Steel Crochet Hook, Size 7.

GAUGE:
 10 sts = 1 inch, 12 sc rows = 1 inch * = STAR
SKIRT-With White, ch 46. Row 1-Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of next 2 chs, 1 dc in each of next 15 chs, 1 tr in each of next 27 chs. Row 2-Ch 4, turn, 1 tr in 2nd tr, 1 tr in each of next 25 tr, 1 dc in each of next 15 dc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, fasten off. Row 3-Turn, with Red, 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 1 dc in each of next 15 dc, 1 tr in each of next 26 tr, work [a Shell of 3 tr and 2 long tr] in top ch of turning ch-4. Row 4-Ch 5, turn, work a decreasing Shell as follows: yo 3 times, draw up a loop in 2nd long tr, [yo, thru 2 loops] 3 times (holding 2 loops on hook), * yo twice, draw up a loop in next tr, [yo, thru 2 loops] twice; rpt from STAR twice, yo, thru all 5 loops on hook, 1 tr in each of next 26 tr, 1 dc in each of next 15 dc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, fasten off. Row 5-Turn, with White, 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 1 dc in each of next 15 dc, 1 tr in each of next 27 tr (working last tr in top of decreasing tr). Row 6-Rpt row 2. Rpt last 4 rows for pattern until 13 White and 13 Red stripes are completed. Waistband-With Red, work 33 sc along narrow edge. Row 2-Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sc across, fasten off.
BODICE-Back-With Blue, make a loop on hook, ch 2, work 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Row 2-Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc (5 sc). Row 3-Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc. Rpt row 3 until there are 37 sc in row. Row 19-Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each sc across (37 sc). Rpt row 19 six times.
Right Front-Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of first 15 sc. Row 2-Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each of 15 sc. Rpt row 2 five times. Row 8-Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc (1 inc.), 1 sc in each of next 12 sc, work a decreasing sc as follows: draw up a loop in each of next 2 sc, yo, thru all 3 loops on hook (1 dec.). Row 9-Ch 1, turn, draw up a loop in each of first 2 sc, yo, draw thru all 3 loops on hook (1 dec.), 1 sc in each of next 12 sc, 2 sc in next sc (1 inc.). Rpt rows 8 and 9 alternately until 20 rows of Right Front are completed. Fasten off. Leaving 7 sts free for back of neck work Left Front to correspond (ending at front edge). Edging-Ch 1, working at front of Bodice, 1 sc in end of first row, * ch 3, skip 1 row, 1 sc in next row; rpt from STAR 8 times, work ch-3 Loops in every 2nd st in sts across back of neck, work other Front to correspond. Fasten off. Leaving 7 rows of point at back free, sew side seams for about 10 rows.
HAT-Top-With Red, make a loop on hook, ch 2, work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join (with slip st in first sc). Rnd 2-Ch 1, 2 sc in joined sc, 2 sc in each of next 7 sc, join, fasten off. Rnd 3-With White, 1 sc in joined sc, 2 sc in next sc, * 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; rpt from STAR around, join (24 sc). Rnd 4-Ch 1, 1 sc in each sc around, join, fasten off. Rnd 5-With Red, 2 sc in joined sc, 1 sc in next sc, * 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc; rpt from STAR around, join (36 sc). Rpt rnd 4. Rnd 7 (right side)-With White, 2 sc in joined sc, 1 sc in next sc, * 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc; rpt from STAR around, join. Do not fasten off. Side-Ch 10, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in each of next 8 chs, slip st in back loop of each of next 3 sc on Top. Row 2-Turn, 1 hdc in each of first 4 sc on Side, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, drop White, pick up Red and ch 1. Row 3-Turn, with Red, 1 sc in each of 5 sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 hdc, slip st in back loop of each of next 3 sc on Top. Row 4-Turn, 1 hdc in each of first 4 sc, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, drop Red, pick up White and ch 1. Row 5-With White, rpt row 3. Row 6-Rpt row 2. Continue to work around always changing color in same way and working 2 rows of each color alternately until 9 Red and 9 White stripes are completed. Fasten off. Sew seam. Brim-From right side, with White, work 36 sc around bottom edge (2 sc for each stripe), join in first sc, fasten off. Rnd 2-From right side, with Blue, work 2 sc in front loop of each sc around, join (72 sc). Rnds 3, 4 and 5-Ch 1, 1 sc in each sc around, join. Fasten off.
BAG-With Red, ch 15, 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each remaining ch. Row 2-Ch 3 (= 1 dc), turn, 1 dc in 2nd dc, 1 dc in each of next 10 dc, 1 dc in top of ch-3. Rpt row 2 six times. Flap-Rows 9 and 10-Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, work off next 2 dc as one, 1 dc in each dc to last 2 dc, work off last 2 dc as one. Fasten off. Fold on top of 4th row (to form Bag) and sew side seams. Fold the 2 rows of Flap over Bag. Steam crocheted pieces lightly.
Handle-With Red, chain for 2 inches, fasten off. Tack in place as shown on front cover. Sew sequin stars or embroider white cross-st stars on Bodice and Bag flap.
PETTICOAT-Sew ends of 4-inch ribbon and run a shirring drawstring ¼-inch from one edge; put on Doll and pull drawstring to fit waist then tie a knot securely. Trim with lace if desired. Put Skirt on Doll and sew back seam. Slip Bodice on Doll, lap right front over left front and tack in place. With ¼-inch ribbon, make a bow with streamers and tack in place as shown.
