Forgotten Memories

Close your eyes and step into an attic,
In the far corner you see a faded wooden box
with items stacked upon it.
You work your way to it and clear away years of rubble stacked on top,You run your hands over the aged wooden box, and you can tell it was once painted Bright colors that
are now faded with age,
This box placed there by Loving hands so long ago,for safe keeping has long been forgotten.
You lift the lid slowly to look inside,A handmade rag doll,With button eyes and red yarn hair lies waiting
for a child long since grown,
You gently lift the doll out and start to look through the well loved toys that fill the box,
You can tell each toy was special and had been handmade with love and care,from the cloth and yarn dolls to the wooden blocks,train and well loved hobbie horse.
This box contained the memories of a childhood,Once filled with laughter, love and joy, and you can almost see a child as they smile while playing with the toys.....
With the collection of patterns and plans you will find here,
I hope you can make your own memories filled
with laughter,love and joy
That too one day will be found as a treasure.

Panama Hattie

MATERIALS:

J. & P. COATS "KNIT-CRO-SHEEN," Art. A.64: 
2 balls of No. 37 Dk. Lavender; 
and a few yards of No. 65 Beauty Pink.

Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.
A doll 11 inches tall; chest 5 ½ inches.
SKIRT ... Starting at waist with Dk. Lavender, ch 55. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. Now work in rnds as follows: 1st rnd: Sc in first sc, draw loop on hook out to measure ¼ inch, thread over and draw loop through, insert hook between single and double loops and draw a loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops on hook (knot st made), make another knot st, * sc in same sc, make 2 knot sts, sc in next sc, make 2 knot sts. Repeat from * around. 2nd rnd: * Make 2 knot sts, sc under double loop of next knot st to the right of knot, sc under double loop of next knot st to the left of same knot. Repeat from * around. Repeat 2nd rnd until piece measures 7 ½ inches. Break off.
BODICE ... Attach Dk. Lavender to first ch on opposite side of starting chain. 1st row: Ch 3, * dec 1 dc—to dec 1 dc, work off 2 dc as 1 dc—dc in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd and 3rd rows: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across and in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 4th and 5th rows: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, increasing 1 dc on each side of front on each row—to inc 1 dc, make 2 dc in 1 dc. Ch 3, turn. 6th row: Repeat 2nd row. Break off.
SHOULDER STRAP ... Attach Dk. Lavender to front of Bodice and make a chain long enough to reach across shoulder, sl st in back of Bodice, turn and sc in each ch across, sl st in same place as thread was attached. Break off. Make other strap the same way.
HAT ... Same as Hat for Miss New Orleans using Dk. Lavender.
FLOWER ... With Beauty Pink, ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook, (ch 3, in same ch make dc, ch 3 and sc) twice; ch 3, dc in same ch, ch 3. Join to first sc. Break off.
Make desired number of Flowers. Sew a sequin to center of each flower and sew flowers in place on dress and hat. Sew 3 snap fasteners to back of Bodice. Sew narrow pink ribbon to hat for ties. Tie a piece of ribbon around waist into a bow.
PANTIES ... Starting at waist make a chain long enough to reach around widest part of doll. Join, being careful not to twist. 1st to 4th rnds incl: Ch 3, dc in each st around. Join. For 11-inch dolls work 9 rnds (instead of 4 rnds). Ch 4 for crotch and sl st directly opposite. Break off. Draw cord through sts of 1st rnd.
SLIPPERS FOR 11-INCH DOLL ... Starting at center ch 10. 1st rnd: Dc in 4th ch from hook, make 2 dc in same ch, dc in next 5 ch, 6 dc in last ch (tie end); work along opposite side of starting chain to correspond, having 3 dc in same ch as first dc. Join with sl st to top of first dc. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, sc in each dc around, increasing 3 sc evenly over toe end. Join. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, picking up the back loop only of each sc, dc in each sc around. Join. 4th rnd: Ch 1, sc in same sp as sl st, sc in next 10 dc, (work off 2 dc as 1 sc—1 dc decreased) 3 times; sc in next 10 dc. Join and break off. Trim as desired.
PETTICOAT ... Cut a strip of 6-inch crinoline hemline binding 18 inches long. Gather across one long side to fit around doll's waist. Sew back seam, leaving a 1-inch opening at top. Sew bias binding around top. Sew a hook and eye at back. Turn up hem to correspond with length of skirt.
